The Lagos State Government says it will repatriate 226 beggars arrested during a statewide enforcement and clean-up operation carried out on Thursday. Sources report that the arrests are made by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Task Force in collaboration with the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps. The Lagos Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, says the exercise forms part of ongoing environmental clean-up and enforcement efforts aimed at improving public safety and maintaining order across the state.

According to the accounts, the process includes profiling and documentation of those apprehended before they are relocated to their respective states of origin. The commissioner also links street begging to environmental pollution and public nuisance. The reports add that the government continues to conduct daily enforcement and sanitation operations as part of a broader effort to promote a cleaner and safer environment for residents and visitors.
