Hyundai Motor Group is set to acquire SoftBank’s remaining stake in Boston Dynamics for $325 million, according to a report cited by multiple outlets. The stake is said to be 9.65%, which would give Hyundai full ownership of the Waltham, Massachusetts-based robotics company. The acquisition would also make Boston Dynamics a wholly owned Hyundai business.

The proposed buyout follows Hyundai’s earlier move to gain control of Boston Dynamics in 2021. In that transaction, Hyundai purchased an 80% stake for about $880 million, valuing the company at roughly $1.1 billion at the time. SoftBank previously retained a put option tied to its position, and the reported 2026 transaction price is described as reflecting the terms of that arrangement.

SoftBank had acquired Boston Dynamics from Alphabet after Google took on the robotics firm in 2013. With SoftBank’s exit, Hyundai would consolidate its control over the company and its robotics activities. Separate reporting also points to ongoing plans for the Atlas humanoid robot, including demonstrations and a potential production rollout at Hyundai’s US electric vehicle plant.
