MPs are calling on Fujitsu to make an “immediate” payment toward compensation for people affected by the Post Office Horizon IT scandal. Liam Byrne, chair of the House of Commons Business Committee, says too many Post Office operators are still waiting for full redress. The Horizon system was supplied by Fujitsu to the Post Office and was used to run branch accounting and related processes. According to MPs and campaigners, failures and errors associated with the Horizon software led to discrepancies being recorded in operators’ accounts, contributing to prosecutions and convictions of branch staff over apparent shortfalls or irregularities. The committee’s request focuses on accelerating financial support as part of the wider efforts to compensate victims. The reports state that Fujitsu, as the company involved in providing the Horizon software, is being pressed to contribute payments on an urgent timetable rather than delaying involvement in the compensation process. The call comes as parliamentary scrutiny continues over responsibilities, timelines, and the implementation of compensation for affected operators.
