The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) says candidate lists circulating on social media for the 2027 elections are fake and should not be treated as the party’s official list. In a statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Bar. Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, the NDC asked the public—particularly party members in states including Imo, Abia, and Anambra—to disregard the circulating lists. The party says the lists do not originate from its headquarters and that it has already submitted the names of its authentic candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through the appropriate channel permitted under the Electoral Act.
The NDC also says it is investigating the sources of the alleged fabrications and leakages, stating that it believes the issue is being driven by “mischief makers” and people it describes as seeking to cause harm or distractions within the party. It further notes that it has mandated its public office-seeking members to sign anti-defection documents, described as a memorandum of understanding requiring candidates on the party’s platform to commit to vacating positions if they leave the party after winning elections.
