Zimbabwe’s Chief Registrar of the Department of Deeds, Companies and Intellectual Property, Willie Mushayi, urges property owners to validate and secure their title deeds. Mushayi says the validation exercise is intended to protect property rights and improve the integrity of Zimbabwe’s land records. He addresses concerns raised by some property owners who fear the process could lead to loss of property. According to the reports, Mushayi dismisses these fears and argues that the initiative focuses on verifying documentation rather than stripping owners of their land.
The registrar’s position is that unvalidated title deeds may not be recognised in future transactions, meaning property transfers and related dealings could depend on whether title documentation has been properly validated. The message is directed at owners who have not yet completed the relevant steps to regularise their deeds, with the aim of ensuring their claims remain usable for future legal and administrative purposes.
