A 21-year-old NEET aspirant, Avantika Maurya, dies after falling from a third-floor building in Dhakad Colony in Indore late Thursday night, according to police. She is reported to have succumbed to injuries around 5 am on Friday. The incident occurs under the jurisdiction of Bhanwarkuan Police Station.
Police say Avantika lived with her elder sister, Dr Sapna Maurya, on the first floor of a private building. Her sister states that Avantika had failed to clear the NEET exam three times and had been under significant stress after the exam was cancelled. She had reportedly been withdrawn and speaking less normally the previous day. The accounts also state that around 11:30 pm on Thursday she was on a mobile phone call with her sister Naina when she walked up toward the terrace and fell. Residents heard the incident, called an ambulance, and informed the police.
Her father, a medical officer, arrived in Indore five days earlier for training and says he was inside the flat during the incident. Another relative says Avantika had previously attempted suicide in January by consuming phenyl. Investigators indicate the matter will be assessed through an examination of her mobile phone and call details to determine whether the fall was accidental or linked to suicide. Political reactions follow, with some parties citing NEET-related issues, though police investigation is ongoing.
