Andhra Pradesh is expected to become India’s largest source of gold following the identification of significant reserves in the Kurnool district. Multiple reports point to Jonnagiri village as a key site, where reserves are estimated at about 50 tonnes. According to the coverage, commercial gold production has started at the location, and additional exploration is planned that could increase the size of the identified reserves.
The reports also describe earlier steps taken to support mining development. NDTV says that up to 1,500 acres were allotted for gold mining in the same Kurnool village about a decade ago, reflecting the state’s long-running effort to enable extraction. Times of India adds that the state intends to draw on private investment to scale the mining project and strengthen gold output.
While the reports focus on projected production and expanding reserves, they agree that the current development is tied to the Kurnool district discovery and that production activity is already underway.
