The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrests a Nigerian-American, Adegoke Oluwatobi Adams, over an alleged cross-border vehicle import scam involving more than $320,000 (about ₦434.88 million). According to the EFCC, Adams holds dual citizenship of Nigeria and the United States and is being investigated for alleged criminal breach of trust and obtaining money by false pretences. The EFCC Ilorin Zonal Directorate arrests the suspect as he returns to Nigeria. The commission says preliminary investigations indicate Adams is linked to a U.S.-based syndicate that allegedly defrauds Nigerians by promising to import vehicles. Reports state Adams advertised a 2024 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG to potential buyers in Nigeria using photos while he was in the United States, offering to purchase and ship the vehicle. Two victims reportedly paid a combined total of $320,000 for the vehicle, with one paying $145,000 via an intermediary and another paying $175,000. The EFCC also states Adams has a prior criminal record in the United States related to the illegal acquisition of vehicles. The case proceeds to court after investigations conclude.
