The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Ibadan (UI) confirms the abduction of a 300-level female law student, identified as Tomisin, who was returning from a Scripture Union Student Fellowship national conference in Imo. SUG President Temidayo Adeboye says Tomisin travelled with other participants, including the National General Director of Scripture Union Student Fellowship, Uwem Cosmos. According to the SUG, Tomisin serves as National Secretary of the fellowship in Nigeria and as Vice President for the UI chapter.
The reports also address wider claims online. SUG and UI’s Director of Public Relations, Joke Akinpelu, both state that only Tomisin is missing from UI, countering viral allegations that up to eight UI students were abducted. Akinpelu adds that the institution was aware of the incident but was not informed about the trip, noting the student left without officially notifying UI of her destination. She also says another UI student from the Department of Music who attended the conference has returned safely.
SUG says it is engaging relevant parties and has contacted security agencies and religious organisations to assist intervention. Tomisin’s disappearance became evident after she failed to sit for scheduled faculty examinations.
