The Social Democratic Party (SDP) denies reports that it has withdrawn from the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026. In statements reported by Nigerian outlets, the party says the information claiming a withdrawal is false and misleading and urges voters to disregard a purported withdrawal notice circulating ahead of the poll. SDP officials say its governorship candidate, Isaac Alade, remains in contention and is duly recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The party also asserts that its name is still on the ballot paper and that its candidate signed the INEC Peace Pact.

In addition to denying the withdrawal claim, SDP raises concerns about election preparations. It alleges that INEC has refused to allow the party to upload the names of its polling unit agents, despite the party having been given access codes. SDP warns that this could affect the election’s credibility. The party emphasizes that it is committed to the contest and references internal party assurances and an INEC recognition framework, while accusing unspecified individuals of spreading misinformation to confuse voters.
