Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to preside over a commissioning ceremony in Kolkata on June 21, where three indigenously built vessels are inducted into the Indian Navy. The ships include INS Dunagiri, described as a stealth frigate; INS Sanshodhak, a survey vessel; and INS Agray, an anti-submarine warfare craft. The commissioning is set to expand the Navy’s capabilities across multiple roles, with the frigate expected to strengthen combat operations, the survey vessel to enhance maritime surveillance and deep-sea surveying, and the anti-submarine platform to support detection and counter-submarine efforts. According to reporting, the vessels have a high level of indigenous content, cited as more than 75%, reflecting India’s growing shipbuilding and defense manufacturing self-reliance. The ceremony marks the addition of new platforms intended to support both coastal defense and wider maritime operations, while improving the Navy’s ability to carry out surveys and expand operational awareness at sea.
