African Democratic Congress chieftain Dele Momodu says the 2027 presidential election will be difficult for President Bola Tinubu and predicts that Atiku Abubakar will win. Speaking on Nevon Media with Oseni Rufai, Momodu argues that Atiku’s path to victory depends on maintaining strength in the North while also competing effectively in the South. He says that if Atiku holds his ground in southern regions and dominates northern states—where he describes a large share of votes as concentrated—Tinubu and Peter Obi would face major challenges. Momodu also references Nigeria’s constitutional vote requirement for presidential elections, saying a winner must secure the highest number of total votes and obtain at least 25% of the votes in two-thirds of the states. He suggests Atiku is positioned to meet this threshold by winning and consolidating support in high-voting northern states. The outlets also note that the prediction comes as key political rivals look ahead to the next election cycle, after Tinubu’s 2023 win in which he secured about 37% of the vote.
