In Guadalajara, Mexico, families of people who have disappeared are using World Cup-themed imagery to make their loved ones harder to overlook as the city hosts matches related to the 2026 tournament. According to multiple reports, searchers place images resembling FIFA- or Panini-style soccer sticker designs on public surfaces across downtown, featuring photos of young men alongside labels that identify them as “desaparecido” (missing). Some of the stickers include names and details for individuals reported missing, such as Christian Emmanuel Rivera (disappeared in August 2023) and Jaime Adrián Ramírez (missing since September 2020).
The campaign is described as an effort to reach both local residents and visitors arriving for World Cup events. It is attributed to Luz de Esperanza, a search collective in Jalisco, which says it works to locate people missing in the western state. The group leads in disappearances in the state registry, with more than 16,000 people listed as missing in Jalisco. Sources also report that other groups have contacted the collective about adopting similar approaches.
