Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga (retd), former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), says bandits terrorising communities in northern Nigeria may be receiving backing from individuals in positions of authority. Tsiga made the allegation during a press conference in Kaduna while commenting on the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar (retd), who died in bandits’ captivity in Katsina State.
According to the reports, Tsiga links his claim to accounts from captivity and describes a network of informants and suppliers allegedly connected to influential figures. He says that while in captivity earlier this year, he was offered ammunition, and that the conversation suggested the bandits were dealing with people who currently hold office.
The comments add to wider public concern about worsening insecurity in northern Nigeria, including banditry, kidnappings and attacks on communities, despite government efforts to restore peace. The sources present Tsiga’s statement as an allegation about possible collusion, without citing any specific names of officials or confirmed evidence.
