Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has released edited and blurred body camera footage showing officers fatally shoot a dog during a response to reports of a woman screaming at an apartment in Canoga Park. Multiple outlets report that police were called after someone reported distress and that the interaction unfolds in and around the hallway outside the woman’s unit, where officers fire and kill the dog.

According to the reports, investigators later determine that the “screaming” was not related to danger or violence. Police say the woman was actually reacting to the New York Knicks’ NBA finals win, with the screams tied to cheering rather than an emergency. The Guardian further describes the footage as capturing an exchange before the dog moves into the hallway, including an officer aiming a pistol.

LAPD releases the video as part of its investigation into the incident. The footage is presented in an edited form, with parts blurred, and the case remains under review by the department.
