A research report by Airbnb finds that Gen Z in India is shifting away from the idea of taking one long, annual holiday. Instead, 87% of respondents prefer travel trips that last under a week, with weekend trips ranking highest, followed by breaks lasting three to five days. The report is based on a survey of 2,012 Gen Z respondents aged 18–29 across 11 Indian cities conducted in April 2026.

The findings also suggest that this generation books travel on shorter timelines: 66% arrange trips within days or weeks rather than months in advance. Respondents describe experiences as personal and variable, with 67% saying no two trips they take look the same. The survey reports that travel choices often reflect identity, with most respondents saying their travel style and destination or stay preferences matter to them beyond what is popular.

The report describes Gen Z as an “Anti-Itinerary” group that leaves parts of the schedule unplanned. It also says many place high value on accommodation, with 82% viewing stays as very or extremely important and 78% spending at least half of their trip time at their lodging.
