NASCAR’s Cup Series returns to Southern California with a race on Coronado Island at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego. Drivers face a 16-turn, 3.4-mile street-course layout that organizers describe as demanding and likely to be physically intense due to its tight corners and course conditions. Ryan Blaney speaks about the need to stay focused on the driving line and braking points while navigating the track near prominent naval features, joking that he has to pay attention to the corner rather than a carrier when braking. Safety planning includes emergency preparedness on site, with a dive team available in the unlikely event that a car ends up in the water. Both outlets frame the event as a notable setting for NASCAR racing, emphasizing the unusual venue and the track’s challenge for drivers. The race proceeds as part of the Cup Series schedule, using a course that blends street racing with the backdrop of a functioning military base.
