French police searching a home in the Paris suburbs for drugs uncover an authenticated painting by Pablo Picasso, prosecutors said. The Creteil public prosecutor’s office said the discovery is made during a search carried out as part of an investigation into drug trafficking. Prosecutors add that the case also involves theft and dealing in stolen goods. A report in Le Parisien says the search takes place in Champigny-sur-Marne, east of Paris, and involves investigators on Monday.
Alongside the Picasso, police seize cannabis resin, luxury clothing, and several thousand euros in cash, according to the reporting cited by the prosecutor’s office and the media account. The prosecutor’s statement says the painting is authenticated as a work by the Spanish artist, but does not identify which Picasso it is.
On Friday, four people are brought before a court for an immediate hearing related to the case, prosecutors said, linking the proceedings to the drug investigation and the newly described theft and stolen-goods inquiry.
