A man identified as Isaac Dung, a 37-year-old father of three, describes surviving an attack in Plateau State in which suspected Fulani militias attacked the Rantiya community, specifically the Rangarasa area, within Jos South Local Government Area. Dung says the assault happened on Thursday night after he noticed armed men arriving on many motorcycles while he was returning home from work. He estimates the attackers numbered more than 100, with shooters carrying out sporadic gunfire while people ran for cover in bushes and around rocky areas.

Dung reports that he was unable to run quickly because he has a bad leg, and he therefore feigned death when the bandits came close. He says he later heard one of the attackers tell others that the “infidel” was dead, after which some of the men mounted their motorcycles and left. Dung says he hid in the bush for more than five hours before finding his way home.

Both outlets present the survivor’s account, including that two vigilante operatives were killed and about 15 people were injured during the attack.
