The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has arrested two elderly men in Abia State for allegedly selling or supplying illicit drugs to teenage secondary school students. Multiple outlets, quoting NDLEA statements, name the suspects as 84-year-old Godfrey Orji and 75-year-old Godwin Obiora (also reported as Godwin Obulunbiya Obiora). The arrests take place in Umuahia, including after NDLEA acting on what it describes as credible intelligence about drug peddling aimed at students.
One report adds further details about the first suspect, describing an operation in which NDLEA agents recovered about 700 grams of “skunk” (cannabis) packaged in small retail sachets. Another account says one suspect is Pa John Ofiel, but the other sources focusing on the same incident consistently describe the two main arrests as Orji and Obiora with similar allegations. The NDLEA states it is intensifying crackdowns on drug trafficking and peddling nationwide, and it says the agency will prosecute the suspects. The NDLEA also urges communities to report suspected drug activities, particularly those involving youths.
