The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two elderly men in Abia State over allegations that they supplied illicit drugs to teenage secondary school students. Reports from multiple outlets say the arrests follow NDLEA operations conducted in Umuahia and surrounding areas, based on what the agency describes as credible intelligence.
According to the accounts, one suspect is 83-year-old Pa John Ofiel, arrested during a raid at Samek by Powerline in Aba on April 28, 2026. NDLEA operatives allegedly recovered 700 grams of “skunk” (a cannabis strain) packaged in retail sachets from him. Another report names an 84-year-old man, Godfrey Orji, and a 75-year-old man, Godwin Obulunbiya Obiora, who are said to have been arrested in Umuahia for allegedly selling illicit substances to teenage students.
NDLEA spokespeople state the arrests are part of an intensified crackdown on drug trafficking and peddling. The agency says it will prosecute the suspects and urges community members to report suspicious activities, particularly those involving youths.
