The Oyo State Police Command says two kidnapping victims abducted in Igbope have not been released, contradicting claims circulating online after an ultimatum by Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho. Police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade said in a statement that a video and reports suggesting the victims’ release are “false, unfounded, and misleading.”

The victims are identified as Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi and her son. They were reportedly abducted on June 16, 2026, by suspected Fulani herdsmen. In spite of social media assertions that the kidnappers freed the pair following Igboho’s ultimatum, the police maintain that the victims are still in captivity.

Police say efforts are continuing to secure the victims’ safe release and to ensure accountability for those behind the abduction. The command also urges the public to verify information before sharing it and reiterates its commitment to rescue operations and bringing perpetrators to justice.
