US Vice President JD Vance says President Donald Trump has asked the United States to “turn over a new leaf” to reshape the US relationship with the Iranian people. Speaking at the Burgenstock resort in Switzerland on Sunday, Vance describes the talks as “historic” and says their aim is to transform ties and extend an “outstretched hand.” He links the effort to technical discussions that are starting in Switzerland with Iranian officials.
According to the reports, Vance is in Switzerland to join Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner for the technical talks, which follow last week’s signing of a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran. Vance frames the meetings as an opportunity for both sides to address longstanding issues together and assess how much progress they can make.
One outlet also reports that, alongside the negotiations, Trump threatens to resume bombing against Iran if Iran does not contain Hezbollah, underscoring that security conditions may remain part of the broader US approach even as the two sides begin dialogue.
