The United States and Iran agree to establish a “deconfliction” (or “de-confliction”) cell focused on Lebanon, according to multiple reports following negotiations held in Switzerland. The talks come after days of conflicting statements and uncertainty over cease-fire terms, alongside concerns that miscommunication could trigger renewed fighting in the region.

Mediators cited by one outlet say the mechanism is intended to help ensure the end of “military operations” in Lebanon. Another report describes the arrangement as involving the two countries, with Lebanon also participating, and notes that mediators including Qatar and Pakistan help facilitate the process.

One outlet also characterizes the arrangement as limiting the role of the Lebanese state in the process, saying it is formed by the US and Iran and does not fully center Lebanese authority. Across accounts, however, the common point is the creation of a new coordination channel to reduce the risk of escalation and support implementation of a broader understanding to end violence extending beyond Lebanon.
