President Trump again attacks The New York Times over its reporting about the U.S.-Iran war and a related memorandum of understanding. In Truth Social posts Sunday, Trump calls the newspaper’s coverage “treasonous,” reacting to a New York Times analysis published June 21 titled “What Changed After Almost 4 Months of War? Analysts Say Not Much.” The New York Times piece argues that after roughly 100 days there is little clarity about what has changed, and says that neither the war nor the agreement ends what U.S. and Israeli officials describe as Iran’s main threats, including a nuclear program that remains heavily damaged but not eliminated.
Trump disputes that assessment and asserts that multiple elements of Iran’s capabilities and leadership have been “almost” or “gone,” while pointing to domestic and economic conditions in Iran and claiming impacts such as oil flows and economic indicators. Other reports note that the Times’ analysis is focused on whether major threats were eliminated or deferred to future negotiations.
Trump also says he will add the New York Times coverage to his legal action against the outlet. Separate coverage also recalls his earlier $15 billion defamation lawsuit against the Times and reporters, which the New York Times has said has no merit and is intended to deter independent reporting.
