The US government has formally notified a proposed Foreign Military Sales (FMS) package to provide sustainment support services and related equipment for India’s AH-64E Apache attack helicopters and M777A2 Ultra-Light Howitzers. The Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) published the notification in the Federal Register on June 17, following prior communication to the US Congress. The total estimated value of the two-part support deal is $482.2 million.
According to the notifications, India has requested long-term sustainment support for the M777A2 howitzers, with the howitzer support package estimated at $230 million. The package includes items such as spares, repair and return, training, technical assistance, field service representation, depot capability, and other logistics and programme support elements.
A separate notification covers sustainment support services for the AH-64E Apache, estimated at $198.2 million. This includes engineering, technical and logistics support, technical data and publications, personnel training, and related logistics and programme support.
Boeing and Lockheed Martin are listed as principal contractors for the Apache support services, while BAE Systems is the principal contractor for the M777 programme. The US states the proposals aim to strengthen the US-India strategic relationship and do not affect regional military balance or US defence readiness.
