Hong Kong police arrest 24 drivers and issue more than 4,000 tickets during a two-week operation targeting careless road behaviour, including distracted driving and jaywalking. Officers conduct citywide enforcement from June 5 to June 19, using unmarked traffic enforcement vehicles to catch offences. Police state the actions focus on behaviours such as using mobile phones while driving, speeding, tailgating, unsafe lane changing, and failing to obey traffic signals, along with jaywalking.
The operations are carried out under two sets of initiatives, described by police as “Clearview” and “Autobinder.” Police say the crackdowns are linked to a rise in road casualties: they report that deaths in road accidents increase by more than 40% in the first five months of the year compared with the same period previously.
