Hyderabad City Police arrest an 18-year-old candidate appearing for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination in Hyderabad after an alleged cheating attempt involving a concealed mobile phone. Police say the incident takes place at Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS) in Ragannaguda, under the limits of Adibatla Police Station, despite security arrangements and multiple inspection rounds at the centre.
According to police, the candidate allegedly places a mobile phone near the washroom area before the exam begins by using access through a ventilator connected to the school’s compound wall. Shortly before the test, he is said to retrieve the device, seal it in a zip-lock cover, and hide it inside a flush tank. Police also state that staff conduct inspections of the premises at around 6 am and again at 11 am, and candidates undergo frisking before entering the examination hall.
During the exam, the student reportedly seeks permission to use the restroom due to stomach pain and remains inside for an unusually long time. Invigilators become suspicious, check the washroom, and find the candidate allegedly using the hidden phone to search for answers online. Police seize the device and say a preliminary check shows use of common applications. A criminal case is registered based on a complaint from the school administration, and the candidate is booked under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
