At a Senate press briefing on Monday, lawyers Benjamin Tolosa Jr. and Jay Tolosa—members of the private prosecution team—said their focus remains on building a case strong enough to support a guilty finding even if the defense argues for an earlier or different discussion on the number of votes required. When asked about the defense panel’s request to discuss immediately the votes needed to convict Duterte, the lawyers declined to give a personal view on whether such discussion is necessary. Instead, they emphasized that their strategy does not depend on a particular reading of the constitutional threshold, but on the strength of the evidence presented during the trial.
