British sprinter CJ Ujah, a former 4x100m relay gold medallist, is charged in the UK as police investigate an alleged cryptocurrency fraud. Multiple outlets report that Ujah is among 10 suspects charged with conspiracy to defraud, with authorities alleging the group is linked to organised crime. The investigation centers on a scam carried out through phone calls to victims. Police allege the callers impersonate police officers and representatives of cryptocurrency companies to persuade victims to act. One report says a victim lost more than £300,000 in cryptocurrency. Another outlet describes allegations that the scheme involved access to victims’ cryptocurrency wallet “seed phrases,” alongside impersonation calls. Ujah was arrested in April following “extensive enforcement action” by the Regional Organised Crime Unit, according to one source. He is reported to be bailed pending a court hearing scheduled for late May. The case is ongoing, and the allegations have not been tested in court.
