The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) is allocating about P1.6 billion for infrastructure projects aimed at modernizing fisheries facilities and strengthening food distribution in the country, according to reports from Inquirer.net and GMA News Online. The funding supports upgrades intended to improve handling, trading, and postharvest operations.

The projects cited include work related to the National Fisheries Processing Center (NFPC) Modernization Program. Phase three of this program rehabilitates Market Halls 1 and 2 and is reported to be scheduled for completion in December. In addition, PFDA approves phase two of the NFPC Shipyard Development Project, described as meant to decongest shipyard operations and enhance support services for fishing vessels.

The plan also includes the construction of a modern fish port in Palawan, which is intended to improve the movement and management of fishery products in the province. Overall, the modernization drive is framed as part of efforts to bolster food security by improving fisheries infrastructure and related networks.
