More than 150 students at Shishukunj International School in Jhalaria, Indore, fall ill after consuming food and water during the school’s Yoga Day celebrations, according to multiple reports. Parents and school sources say complaints start appearing from June 20, with symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever and indigestion reported among children from Kindergarten to Class 4. The situation comes to broader attention on Monday after parents protest at the school and confront authorities and management, with video footage shared on social media. Many families take affected students to nearby private hospitals and paediatric clinics, where doctors diagnose cases consistent with food poisoning, gastroenteritis and dehydration; some children are reported as weak due to repeated vomiting.

Local authorities begin investigating to identify whether contaminated food or drinking water caused the illness. Food safety officials collect food samples for testing, including suspected expired items reportedly found in the canteen such as salt, spices and namkeen. A joint team from health, food safety and other departments visits the campus, and the canteen is sealed. The school management says it is conducting an internal inquiry and denies proof that the illness is caused by the school, stating it served food and water arrangements and that it has received numerous complaints and emails. The episode follows a prior safety incident at the school in late 2025.
