A major fire breaks out in a three-storey commercial building in Lucknow’s Aliganj area, where a coaching/animation centre operates alongside other businesses. Multiple reports say the blaze traps predominantly young students, with several people also injured. As flames and thick smoke spread, some individuals attempt to escape from upper floors, including reports of people jumping from a first-floor level. Firefighters use dozens of resources (including 14–15 fire tenders reported by outlets) to battle the fire that erupts in the afternoon, around 3 pm.
Authorities conduct rescue operations and confirm fatalities, with figures reported at least 12 and also 15 depending on timing of reporting; the latest consolidated figure across sources is 15 deaths. The chief minister directs immediate supervision and support for victims, and a high-level probe is initiated.
Police later arrest four people connected to the building, and an FIR is filed under relevant criminal and fire-safety provisions. Allegations include illegal commercial use of a building approved for residential use, as well as potential safety lapses. Investigators continue to determine the fire’s origin and whether regulations were violated.
