Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) announces a 48-hour water supply shutdown starting at midnight on June 23, continuing until midnight on June 25, affecting multiple ward areas. The decision follows a joint review meeting held on June 19 between civic authorities and the Water Resources Department. Authorities cite delayed monsoon warnings linked to El Niño and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) conditions as the main reason for precautionary rationing to preserve water reserves and reduce the risk of a more serious drinking water shortage later in the season.
The shutdown is expected to disrupt water sourced through Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) water treatment and supply, including plants associated with Barvi, Jambhul and Shahad. TMC’s advisory indicates complete or near-complete stoppages across areas including Diva and Kalwa, Mumbra (with limited exceptions in small pockets), parts of Wagle, and Majiwada-Manpada (including Lower Kolshet Village). Sources also note that after restoration, municipal pipeline pressure may not normalise immediately, with low-pressure supply likely for 24 to 48 hours. Some residents report additional unscheduled cuts and issues with tanker availability in certain complexes.
