African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore says he will continue mobilising the public while in detention after a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered him remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre. Multiple outlets report the court ordered the remand from Monday until Wednesday, following the revocation of Sowore’s bail last week. The remand is linked to allegations handled in court involving remarks Sowore allegedly made about President Bola Tinubu, which are connected to a case brought by the Department of State Services.
The reports say the presiding judge, Justice Mohammed Umar, issued the order after dismissing an application by Sowore seeking the judge’s withdrawal from the case. Sowore reacts to the ruling by stating he is not deterred by imprisonment and that it will not stop his activism. He also addresses the bail revocation, saying his absence from court was due to legal consultations, and that the court treated that single absence as grounds for revoking bail. He further indicates he came prepared for detention, including by bringing personal items for prison.
