ISRO invites proposals from the Indian astronomical community to analyse data from its XPoSat mission, according to reports. The initiative is aimed at enabling researchers to access and work with observations from the spacecraft. XPoSat, launched on January 1, 2024, is described as India’s first satellite dedicated to X-ray polarimetry. Its focus is on studying extreme cosmic sources, including black holes, neutron stars, and active galactic nuclei. Researchers are being asked to submit proposals for using the mission’s data for scientific analysis. The coverage notes that this call supports participation from India’s research community in extracting results from XPoSat, which is designed to measure the polarization characteristics of X-rays coming from high-energy astrophysical objects. By opening access through a proposal-based process, ISRO intends to broaden the range of scientific investigations and analysis carried out using the mission’s datasets.
