Malawian businessman Leston Mulli wins a legal case after a 14-year court challenge to clear his name. The High Court rules that the government’s 2012 decision to blacklist Mulli and five of his companies from public contracts was unlawful. In a judgment delivered on June 22, 2026, Justice Allan Hans Muhome finds that the blacklist order was driven by malice and had no proper legal basis.

The court also holds that the directive was issued without legal authority by then attorney general and justice minister Ralph Kasambara SC, who allegedly acted beyond the powers available at the time. The ruling overturns the government’s 2012 bar and directs that Mulli’s ability to seek public contracts should no longer be constrained by that blacklist.

Both outlets describe the decision as a significant rebuke of the government’s action, concluding that it was not supported by law and was targeted toward Mulli and his companies.
