President Bola Tinubu appoints Professor Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe as the new chairman of the governing board of the National Universities Commission (NUC), according to multiple Nigerian news outlets. The appointment is reported as being announced in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the presidency’s spokesman. Ogundipe, described as a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), is expected to lead the NUC governing board’s work on the regulation and development of Nigeria’s university system. Sources say he succeeds Emeritus Professor Olufemi Raphael Aina, who resigned less than a year after his appointment. One outlet adds that Aina was appointed by Tinubu in July 2025 and that NUC governing board members were inaugurated in November 2025. Ogundipe’s academic background is also outlined in several reports, including that he served as UNILAG vice-chancellor from 2017 to 2022 and is currently Pro-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Ede. The reports also state Tinubu expresses confidence that Ogundipe will strengthen the credibility of the university system and advance reforms related to access, quality, and integrity in higher education.
