President Bola Tinubu appoints Professor Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe, a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), as the new chairman of the governing board of the National Universities Commission (NUC). Multiple reports say the appointment is announced in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s spokesperson.

The articles state that Ogundipe succeeds Emeritus Professor Olufemi Raphael Aina, who resigned from the NUC chairmanship less than a year after taking office. One outlet adds that Aina was appointed by Tinubu in July 2025 and that members of the NUC governing board were inaugurated in November 2025.

Sources describe Ogundipe as an academic administrator and botanist. They report that he served as UNILAG vice-chancellor from 2017 to 2022 and is currently Pro-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Ede in Osun State. The reports also say Tinubu expresses confidence that Ogundipe will strengthen Nigeria’s university system by supporting reforms and leadership in areas such as regulation, funding, quality assurance, and academic stability.
