Multiple reports say armed men abduct Comrade Bayo Fabiyi, a chieftain of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), along with a driver and another associate in Oko-Irese, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. The incident is reported to occur while Fabiyi’s team was travelling to deliver ransom and other items intended to secure the release of a person previously kidnapped in the same community. According to one account, the team was carrying about ₦30 million, five motorcycles and three bags of rice when they were ambushed. Sources also report that the kidnappers directed the group into a forested area along a route linking Kwara and Kogi states, before the abductors were later reportedly “seized at gunpoint,” though details of who seized whom are not consistent across the reports. One report adds that an abducted victim may have been killed before the ransom team arrived, a point unknown to the people on the mission. Police response varies in timing: the Kwara State Commissioner of Police says the command had not been formally informed at the time of inquiry, and that investigations would begin after a formal report is received.
