FCT Minister Nyesom Wike says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains Nigeria’s only opposition party challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking on Monday during the commissioning of a water supply network to Karu Satellite Town, Wike also congratulated President Bola Tinubu on APC’s victories in Saturday’s bye-elections held across Nigeria. Wike’s comments frame the PDP as both the opposition and the leading opposition party, arguing that opposition is defined by actively challenging the ruling party rather than only criticising it. He said that in Nigeria’s political setting there are winners and an opposition, and that Saturday’s bye-elections showed the ruling party and the opposition. According to Wike, the PDP is “the only party challenging” the APC, and therefore remains the leading opposition. The statements were made alongside Tinubu’s third-anniversary programme activities connected to the commissioned project.
