The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) orders ticket reseller StubHub to make refunds to customers after finding the company breached consumer protection rules by using “drip pricing” or hidden fees. Multiple outlets report that the CMA requires StubHub to refund around 50,000 customers. BBC reporting adds that the refunds are set at about £10 per customer, reflecting the CMA’s estimate of what customers should receive. Other coverage states the total customer compensation is about £590,000, with the refunds shared across affected customers.
The CMA also imposes a financial penalty on StubHub. BBC and other outlets say StubHub must pay a fine, with one report citing a fine close to £900,000 and another describing the penalty as £1.5 million. The CMA’s decision is framed as enforcement against misleading or unfair pricing practices where additional charges appear later in the purchase process rather than being shown upfront. StubHub is required to carry out the refunds and pay the penalty as directed by the CMA.
