A highly venomous Russell’s viper is found and rescued from the basement of Mumbai Metro Line 3’s BKC station on Tuesday morning. According to reports, security staff spot the snake inside the station premises and alert wildlife rescuers. The snake is described as weak and dehydrated, and rescuers provide it water at the site. After being given water and stabilised, the snake is carefully captured and placed in a container. It is then released back into its natural habitat, following guidance from forest/wildlife officials.

A rescuer and other officials say the incident happens amid conditions that can drive snakes out of their usual locations, including heat in recent days followed by monsoon rains. Both reports add that more snake sightings are possible during the monsoon season as rainfall and flooding can displace reptiles and push them toward human structures like metro stations. Footage of the rescue attempt is reported to have surfaced online, including the snake’s initial response to water.
