Ahead of GST completing nine years on July 1, Deloitte India’s GST@9 survey says “India Inc” supports further reform of the goods and services tax regime. The survey highlights that businesses want improvements beyond digitisation, focusing on faster refund processing, smoother and more uniform audit practices, and a reduction in tax disputes driven by better data and compliance tools. According to the survey, companies are looking to an “AI-driven compliance” approach and more data-led mechanisms to help prevent disagreements and streamline resolution. The survey also calls for reforms to make audits more predictable and consistent across cases, which businesses say would reduce uncertainty and administrative friction. Overall, the GST@9 findings present a common set of priorities among surveyed stakeholders: quicker refunds, standardised audit processes, and the use of advanced analytics or AI to strengthen compliance and lower the likelihood of disputes as the GST enters its next phase.
