Apple TV releases the trailer for “The Dink,” a comedy centered on the increasingly popular sport of pickleball. The film stars Jake Johnson as Dusty Boyd, a former tennis player who now coaches unruly kids at a suburban country club owned by his father, Chuck (played by Ed Harris). Seeking his father’s approval, Dusty is pushed to learn and play pickleball, framed by Apple as a response to the sport’s growing “epidemic.”
The trailer also spotlights Ben Stiller, who is involved with the project alongside the cast. Mary Steenburgen appears with other ensemble members including Chloe Fineman, Christine Taylor, Patton Oswalt, Martin Kove, Chris Parnell, and Aaron Chen, with additional appearances from real-life former tennis players Andy Roddick and John McEnroe. “The Dink” is directed by Josh Greenbaum, known for comedy projects such as “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar.” Sources say it is written by Sean Clements and produced by Ben Stiller. Apple TV plans to debut the film next month, with timing described as July.
