IRCTC’s Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Sanjay Kumar Jain resigns from his post, and his departure is set to take effect on July 20, 2026. The Railway Board approves his resignation, according to reports, and an interim arrangement for the CMD role is expected to be announced shortly. Jain is expected to continue in his position until July 20 to ensure continuity in decision-making and day-to-day operations.
IRCTC, a public sector undertaking, is responsible for railway catering and tourism services and runs India’s largest online railway ticketing platform. Because of its role in passenger-facing services, the leadership change is being closely watched across the railway sector. Sources quoted in one report indicate that the Railway Ministry will issue separate orders in the coming days regarding additional charge for the top post until a regular CMD is appointed.
Officials are expected to work on a transition plan aimed at maintaining uninterrupted operations and ongoing projects while IRCTC functions under interim leadership after July 20.
