Multiple outlets report that a beta version of Apple’s Reality Composer Pro 3, a tool for creating spatial experiences for Vision Pro, includes code references tied to “The Machinery,” a game-engine project that stopped in 2022 without public explanation. MacRumors says an analysis of binaries shipped with the Reality Composer Pro 3 beta found at least dozens of mentions of “the machinery” or “our machinery,” along with matches to parts of The Machinery’s project structure, asset management system, and database architecture. The report also notes that The Machinery was developed by Our Machinery, a team associated with veterans of the Bitsquid engine, and describes an architecture called “The Truth” as central to that system.
AppleInsider similarly describes a beta code investigation that uncovers elements of The Machinery embedded in Reality Composer Pro 3. Both accounts emphasize that it is unclear whether Apple licensed technology, acquired the company, or otherwise inherited components. MacRumors also reports that a co-founder and CEO of Our Machinery appears to work on Apple’s spatial computing developer tools team, but Apple has not commented publicly. Apple has been contacted for comment, and details are expected to be updated if a response is received.
