Police in Chhattisgarh say a 46-year-old man, Ram Sahay Jaiswal, allegedly poisoned eight villagers between about four months. According to investigators, the accused used a substance locally referred to as ‘suhaga’, described as borax powder (sodium tetraborate decahydrate), and administered it to the victims. Both reports state that he mixed borax with alcohol before serving it to men who later died.

Hindustan Times adds that the accused allegedly attended the victims’ funerals and appeared to grieve with their families after the deaths. NDTV and Hindustan Times both frame the case as a serial poisoning incident, with police citing the alleged method of combining ‘suhaga’ with alcohol and giving it to multiple victims.

Police investigations continue as authorities build the case, including establishing the link between the substance used and the deaths, and documenting the timeline and circumstances around each victim’s poisoning and death.
