Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis are bringing their 2024 concept album “Warriors” to Broadway as a musical adaptation of the 1979 cult film and the novel that inspired it. The project draws on “The Warriors” story about warring New York gangs and follows the Coney Island gang’s journey back to the Bronx after they are falsely accused of killing a rival gang leader. Miranda is co-writing the stage musical with Davis, marking his first new full-length original stage musical since “Hamilton.”
Producers announce that “Warriors” begins previews at Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in March 2027 and is scheduled to officially open in April 2027. The production is co-directed by Jenny Koons and Andy Blankenbuehler, who is associated with “Hamilton.” Coverage also notes that the original story traces back to author Sol Yurick’s 1965 book, which was inspired by Xenophon’s ancient epic “Anabasis.” Miranda’s “Warriors” concept album was released in 2024 and received critical acclaim before being adapted for the stage.
