The University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) says operations have returned to normal after nurses from the Accident and Emergency (A&E) department walk off the job and protest earlier on Tuesday. UHWI management reports that it has implemented measures to address the immediate concerns raised by staff, particularly overcrowding and aspects of the work environment. To reduce congestion and improve patient flow, the hospital says it transfers patients from the A&E area to inpatient wards.
In a statement, UHWI management emphasizes that patient care remains the hospital’s highest priority and assures the public that the concerns are being addressed. The hospital also states it is focused on maintaining a safe and supportive environment for both patients and staff while continuing to deliver quality healthcare services. The hospital further thanks its nursing team for continuing to support patient care and service delivery following the protest. The Jamaica Gleaner similarly reports that services resume at UHWI after the nurses’ protest actions in the A&E department.
