The Ottawa Senators acquire winger William Eklund from the San Jose Sharks in a trade that centers on the ninth overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. Multiple reports say Ottawa receives Eklund and that the Sharks send the No. 9 selection to San Jose as part of the deal.
According to the reports, San Jose’s return package includes Eklund along with two prospects, Kasper Halttunen and Brandon Svoboda, in exchange for the draft pick. Yahoo Sports also notes the Sharks’ broader trade context, suggesting the move could be connected to further roster planning.
The Athletic highlights that this is the second trade involving Ottawa in as many days, after the Senators previously traded captain Brady Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers. Ottawa general manager Steve Staios is reported to have used the No. 9 pick he acquired from that earlier Tkachuk transaction to complete the Eklund trade. Ottawa also reportedly sends additional assets beyond the pick, while San Jose adjusts its forward group and prospect holdings.
