Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde declares a curfew in 10 local government areas following the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers. The affected LGAs are those surrounding the Old Oyo National Park, which residents describe as a source of security concern. According to reports, students and teachers kidnapped recently are being held by suspected bandits in and around the park area. One report says 39 students and seven teachers were abducted last month in communities within Oriire Local Government Area.
Makinde’s order is contained in a statement issued by the Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, and made available through the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju. The curfew takes effect on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, and runs for 16 hours each day, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. in the first instance. The curfew is set to last 48 hours, as stated by the government. The listed LGAs include Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo, and Atiba.
